Fire Bath (Anthem)

This familiar burning
I grew accustomed to.
This pain and aching
That I took for granted.
It was gone and then returned.
I'd hoped it'd not come back.

Even as the blazing fires burn around me,
Even as the war cries out from within,
Even as the searing scaring starts once more,
I quench the flames and quickly
I turn away from the horror within.

Sickening to the senses
Yet desired by subconscious
Known as a way of escape,
This burning of myself alive.
Hidden tears of acid
Leave scars upon my soul.

Even as the blazing fires burn around me,
Even as the war cries out from within,
Even as the searing scaring starts once more,
I quench the flames and quickly
I turn away from the horror within.

It's my own desire now
Not just what I should do.
But I'm going to take my freedom back--
I cannot be controlled by you!

Even as the blazing fires burn around me,
Even as the war cries out from within,
Even as the searing scaring starts once more,
I quench the flames and quickly
I turn away from the horror within.

For once, I have decided.
I have made up my mind.
I'm going to fight this battle,
It won't take me alive!
